Church will hold art fest
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Lawton will host its first Community Arts and Crafts Festival Friday and Oct. 22.
The festival will feature around 20 artists, crafters and direct sales people from the Lawton community. It's free and open to the public and will feature a bake sale from Girl Scout troop 763 and chances to win door prizes donated by each vendor.
Organizer Theresa Riemer said the purpose of the festival is to bring local artists and crafters together and introduce them to people who appreciate and purchase art.
"There's a large group of people in Lawton that are creative types, but it seems hard for us to connect," Riemer said. "So this is another way to kind of make a place where they can connect and meet people who like to purchase art and crafts from people who make them."
Riemer said most in the congregation are creative in some way and she hopes the festival will draw more people to the church. The building that has housed the church the past five years is fairly new to the congregation.
"We had to renovate it while we were in it and so we've had some kind of craziness going on," Riemer said, "and the last couple of years everything has been stable and built, so we're good to go. We really want to invite the community to come out and see what we have to offer."
