Church sets car show on Sunday
FLETCHER - A local church hopes a car show will bring some new faces Sunday morning.
"This is the first car show we've ever done," said Herman Dutton, Fletcher Christian Church associate pastor. "We wanted to do something to introduce people to the church. We want to give people a worry-free environment so they can come, experience a car show and come in and worship to see what we're all about."
Registration for the inaugural First Christian Church Car Show will begin at 8 a.m. Anyone is welcome to bring a vehicle and enter it for free. Dutton said there won't be any categories this year because he wasn't sure how many vehicles would be entered during the inaugural event. He hopes at least 20 vehicles will be entered, and if the show is a success, it could return next year with categories.
"It doesn't matter what type of vehicle you have or what it looks like, you're welcome to enter it," he said. "Car, truck, motorcycle it doesn't matter. We'll have a vote on the favorite vehicle and give out awards for first, second and third place."
The church will host its traditional morning service at 8:30 a.m. and the car show will begin right after at 9 a.m. Bounce houses and other family activities will be set up outside the church for people to enjoy while they wait for the 10:30 a.m. contemporary service. Once it concludes around 11:45 a.m., Dutton said, the church will provide a free barbecue lunch for everyone in attendance.
"It will be an opportunity to let the kids play and for people to look at the cars and that sort of thing," he said.
