On behalf of the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, it’s staff, board and membership, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. We are so very honored to serve our wonderful community, and we are excited for the future.
As I reflect on the wonderful meaning of Christmas, and why we celebrate, for those of us of Christian faith, we think of the birth of our Lord and Savior. I also think of the many holiday traditions and the outpouring of love and support shown during this time of the year. I think how wonderful it would be if we lived each day as if it were Christmas. If we did, each day we would be focused on others and not of self. We would be kind, generous, and loving. We would surprise each other with simple expressions of love and appreciation, such as the amazing picture I received recently from Stella Maxwell. We would also be reaching out to make sure those less fortunate have what they need such as shelter, clothing, food, and yes, for the little ones, toys.
The truth is, I could write a chapter on how proud I am of the benevolence of this community through the efforts of so many wonderful individuals and organizations. The list of amazing charities and individuals is quite extensive. We are blessed to live in a community that truly does reach out to meet the needs of others. Reality is, it’s 365 days a year, someone is being a gift giver through the giving of their time, talent and money. We have organizations such as the Lawton Food Bank that’s open year-round, Salvation Army, Hearts that Care, Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry and our many churches that organize events and activities to help those in need. We have much to be thankful for and proud of within our community. It’s so easy to get busy with the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, and day to day living, that we forget to pause and give thanks and count our blessings.
I am thankful we live in a loving community, a community that cares, a community that shares. For all of you that have contributed to the many programs and services that are working to make this holiday season bright, thank you. As well, thank you to all that give so much for the betterment of our community, 365 days a year, thank you. The Chamber team wishes you and yours a wonderful holiday and a very merry Christmas.
