Memorial service for Jimmy Cowher Jr., 70, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at The Lighthouse Church of God with pastor Nancy Dacci officiating.
Jimmy departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at his home in Lawton.
Jimmy was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Williamsport, Pa., to James M. and Rhoda A. Cowher. He grew up in Lawton. He served in the United States Army and was an honor grad in the top six of his class and marked by the presentation of sniper tab. Jimmy was stationed in Korea. He later moved to Tulsa and worked for the Tulsa World newspaper. Years later he moved to Wichita, Kan., where he worked for the Wichita Eagle newspaper. Jimmy moved back to Lawton to help take care of his mother after his father passed away. He worked with electronics and refrigeration for several years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and scuba diver. He enjoyed working on automobiles, riding his bike, camping and being outdoors.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Stephens, Wichita, Kan.; a sister and brother-in-law, Suzy and Prentiss Swann; two nieces: Kristen Porter and her husband Jeff and Jennifer Chavez; a nephew, Nathan Swann; four great-nephews: Xander, Xaiden, Avian and James; and a great-niece, Charlcie.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, James and Rhoda Cowher; grandparents: Roy and Amy Cowher and Alphonse and Elvira Formica; and aunts and uncles.
