Anna Lou Johnson
LAWTON Funeral for Anna Lou Johnson, 84, Lawton, will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Patrick Latham and Dr. William F. Watkins officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 in Lawton. She was born March 30, 1933, to John R. and Thelma Strange Collins in Ardmore.
Prior to moving to Lawton in 1939, she lived in Wilson, Ada and Denison, Texas. She graduated from Lawton Senior High School in 1950.
Anna Lou Collins married Robert Lane Johnson on Feb. 4, 1951 at First Baptist Lawton at the age of 17. Anna Lou was a wife and mother to her family whom she cherished dearly. She taught them to love the Lord and to care for each other. She also taught her children the true meaning of marriage.
In 1977 she started her second career as a secretary at the Great Plains Vo-Tech School before taking the position of managing director of the United States Field Artillery Association from 1979 to 1999. During those 20 years she initiated the Officer Candidate School (OCS) Hall of Fame. She received the "Ancient Order of St. Barbara" and finally was inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame.
She loved her church and began teaching Sunday school when she was 13 and continued teaching for 53 years. One of the highlights of those years was teaching special education Sunday school for 15 years at First Baptist Lawton. Anna Lou also directed children's choirs at First Baptist Altus and First Baptist Lawton. In addition, she played the piano for the Spanish mission affiliated with First Baptist Church Altus for seven years.
Anna Lou was the co-president of the Lawton PTA Council for one year, co-president of Wilson Elementary School PTA for three years and a past member of the Knife and Fork Club.
Her legacy continues in the lives of her family. She is survived by her daughter Marsha and husband Ron Ayers, Lawton; sons and wives, Mark and Renea Johnson, Piedmont, Martin and Judy Johnson, Fayetteville, Ark., Reed and Christie Johnson, Lawton; her 12 grandchildren Allison and husband Jason, Bradley, Kebra and husband Scotty, Lane and wife Rachel, Micah, Timothy, Eric, Anna, Nick and wife Brenda, Robby and wife Mikalah, Collin, Ricky and wife Rachel and her 16 great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Emily, Seth, Sage, Sawyer, Sullivan, Jessica, Justin, Xander, Madyson, Lydia, Elise, Owen, Ezekiel, Liam, and Elly; and her caring sister-in-law, Virgie Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents John R. and Thelma Strange Collins; Robert Lane (Bob) Johnson, her husband of 58 years, an infant brother; her son Robert Lane Johnson, Jr., and her great-grand daughter Alizabeth.
The family will greet friends from 2-4 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
