A 33-year-old woman pleaded guilty Thursday to embezzling more than $23,000 from her former employer.
Brittni Maurine Strickland, a.k.a. Brittni M. Reazin, entered her plea to the felony embezzlement count in Comanche County District Court.
Records indicate she received a five-year deferred sentence, a $1,000 fine and was ordered to make restitution of $23,567.27, payable to the District Attorney’s office on behalf of the victims. She will also have two years of Department of Corrections supervision.
“On or about 10-1-16 and 12-31-17, I fraudulently took money from Lawton Communications without their permission that was entrusted to me …” Strickland wrote in her plea agreement.
According to the total fraud analysis sheet entered in court records, over the next year and three months, Strickland took $17,443.07 in excess payroll checks, $5,010.44 in fraudulent checks and $435.50 in excess vacation among the payroll fraud incurred.
A Quickbooks report showed that between October 2016 and December 2017, she received $2,675.29 in cash payments for Lawton Communications, LLC, and, in turn, only deposited $1,555. The missing cash was determined to amount to $1,120.29.
Of the restitution, $18,419.04 is slated for EMC Insurance which insured Lawton Communications. The amount not covered by insurance, $4,148.23 plus the $1,000 deductible is slated to be returns to her former employer.
