Woman reports online extortion attempt

Lawton police are looking into an online extortion attempt of a local couple.

LPD Sgt. Paul Huyssoon was working the police station’s front desk Wednesday when he received a call from the victim who claimed she was the victim of an extortion attempt. She said that she and her husband own several Apple devices, including cell phones and tablets.

On Monday, the woman said she received an email from an unknown source/suspect and its text was in the German language. The report states, she deciphered the email and learned the suspect claimed to have hacked into her Apple account obtained a sexually-sensitive video stored on one of the devices. The suspect demanded a payment of 374 Euros ($430.33) to be paid in Bitcoins on a Bitcoin account. It was threatened that the sensitive video would be sent to all of her phone contacts if payment wasn’t made.
