Winter National Show brings newcomers, veterans to Fairgrounds
Exhibitors defied the slushy remains of last week’s snowstorm to display their prize pigs at the Great Plains Winter National Pig, Lamb & Goat Show at the Comanche County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
The option to “show out of trailer” was on the table but not an inviting prospect for anyone who wanted to keep their show animals warm and spotless en route to Rings A and B.
The event attracted newcomers as well as repeat customers. This is the first year for 10-year-old Cash Walker, a fourth grader at Elgin Elementary School, to show livestock. A member of Elgin 4-H Club, he acquired a Berkshire gilt a few months ago and took her before a judge for the very first time at Tuttle. The Great Plains Winter National marks his second time in the arena.
