Scribe picks LHS, Mac to pass key district tests
The second half of the season begins tonight, but it's tomorrow that brings the biggest game of the week.
Since losing to MacArthur in Week 2, Lawton High has given up 21 points in three games. The Wolverine starters haven't given up any and they are starting to look like the team the coaches thought they had coming into the season.
This week, the No. 6 Wolverines host No. 9 Stillwater. Both squads are 4-1, but the Pioneers' loss means more since it came to district foe No. 7 Midwest City by nine points last week. Stillwater's three important wins are against teams that are 8-7 (the other win is against U.S. Grant which is playing as an independent).
The two wins against Edmond North and Deer Creek are nice, but it's the 35-26 win at No. 10 Mustang that is the most impressive.
Mustang and Midwest City are very good teams. The only opponent of that level that LHS has played is MacArthur. LHS had a problem getting its defense off the field against MacArthur.
But as stated above, that defense has been playing much better. We think it continues... LAWTON HIGH 34, Stillwater 20.
Here are the rest of the Week 6 games with the home teams in all caps.
MACARTHUR 48, Duncan 13 Last year this game was one the most ridiculous displays of football we've ever seen. The Highlanders won the game 71-56 and sealed its 15 district points on a touchdown run from QB Will Collins with less than a minute left in the game. Those 15 points helped Mac come back and win the district. It won't be the same this year because Duncan is averaging just 13 points per game.
