Rollergirls fall to Cowboy Capital
Lawton's 580 Rollergirls dropped to 1-3 this season after taking a tough loss Saturday night from the visiting Cowboy Capital Rollergirls, 248-213.
The Stephenville, Texas, squad took a 5-2 lead out of the gate but then fell behind the hometown squad, 13-5. Despite runs by both teams' jammers 580's Scarlett Johatchett and Hot Shot from Cowboy Capital 580 jumped ahead, 71-64, said Erin "Dublin D'Pain" Cooper, media liaison. The Lawton squad padded the lead to take a 114-93 lead into halftime.
"Cowboy Capital did not take this sitting down, they answered in the beginning of the second half with a 16-point jam and then an 18-point jam that brought them into the lead at 157-150," Cooper said. "On jam 32, Molly Meet Your Maker was sent to the penalty box, leaving the Texas ladies to rack up some points, bringing the score to a tie at 177 with 14 minutes left on the clock."
Lawton rallied and stayed close but the visitors made a strong late push at the end of the half to take home the win. The Rollergirls had a skater ejected near the end of the game for excessive penalties. "Feral Crow had to watch the end from the sidelines for reaching seven penalties," she said.
Most valuable players: 580 Cocoa Thunder for blocking and Molly Meet Your Maker, jamming; Cowboy Capital Psycho Phylly, blocking, and Hot Shot, jamming.
