Rambelles dump pesky CU volleyballers

Angelo State lived up to its national reputation and spoiled Cameron University's home volleyball opener by sweeping a Lone Star Conference match from the Aggies Friday by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.

But it wasn't easy.

Cameron led most of the way in Game One and was tied with the Rambelles late in the third game before succumbing to the nation's 25th-ranked team. ASU is now 2-0 in league play and 5-1 overall.

Cameron, making its home debut under Coach Qi Wang, is 0-1 in the LSC and 2-3 overall. The Ags return to the friendly confines to host Tarleton State at 2 p.m. today.

Tarleton improved to 2-0 and 6-1 Friday by sweeping Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. Scores were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.

Buoyed by a rowdy and supportive crowd, Cameron continues to adapt to Wang's style of play.

"Yeah, I like that," Wang said. "I'm surprised we had so much support. It's exciting."

But 30 errors and a .079 attack percentage were too much for the Ags to overcome against a quality opponent.

Wang was assistant coach at Angelo last season. He greeted old friends before the match, but was all business when play began.
