Phelps proves there’s more to life than tennis

Abbey Phelps loves tennis and has proven on the court to be the best prep singles player in Lawton.

However, she's so busy this summer that she's not even going to get to play in the annua;mmer I'm going to the advanced camp.

"I try to learn as much as possible. But I would say I'm not the most outspoken person, however, I love to plan events and that's what student council is all about, that and helping your school."

She's done such a good job of being a leader around Eisenhower High that she was unopposed when it came time to elect class president of the Eisenhower High Senior Class of 2019.

"I actually won unopposed," she said with a laugh when I asked about the election. "I was surprised but it did make me feel good that the seniors had faith in me to lead them next year."

It was actually her student council activities that helped open the door for Girl's State.

"Because I had been so active in student council and other leadership programs at school, our activities director, Mrs. (Danna) Bross, gave me an application for Girl's State and I was selected."
