ELGIN — Seconds after hitting a game-winning RBI single in extra innings to send Elgin’s baseball team to the 2018 Class 4A state tournament, Trevor Bianchini was so ecstatic he nearly forgot to touch first base.
He had to make the exhilarating victory official first.
“I got real pumped up,” said Bianchini, reliving his line drive walk off winner to right field that scored his brother, Lance, in a 4-3 win over Clinton with two outs in the regional championship this past May. “I missed first base and had to go back and touch it. Then I threw my helmet up in the air. It was really exciting.”
