LHS awaits Friday battle with Bixby; Tipton ready
Well, it took 24 hours after MacArthur had reached the state 5A finals for the Highlanders to learn when that title game would be and it's now set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Yukon High School.
The OSSAA was waiting to announce the playoff time until the TV networks announced a Bedlam starting time. The OSSAA learned at 9:30 p.m. that the Bedlam game was scheduled for 2:30 p.m., then made calls to both coaches.
It was not known what time the coaches had prefered, all that was known was that the OSSAA made the announcement to various media outlets at 10:30 p.m.
One local team that didn't spend time in limbo was Lawton High School because the Wolverines have known for a week that they will play Bixby at 7 p.m. Friday at Moore Stadium for the first Class 6A-II championship.
Those two teams have been practicing for the past week, but they've also been resting their players and that should make for a better game.
"When I first heard about this break in the playoffs, I wasn't sure about whether it was a good idea or not, but now that we're doing it I kinda like the idea," LHS coach Randy Breeze said. "This will give both teams a chance to rest their players, let them get their legs back. And, there are kids who are banged up and this will give them a few extra days to get better.
"All of that should make for the most exciting game possible. Both teams should be at full strength and both will have had plenty of time to prepare for the game. We're excited about playing them. It should be a great game between two great teams."
