Lawton Christian School captured the OCSAA state crown this weekend.

LCS wins volleyball state crown

DEL CITY  Lawton Christian School started a volleyball program four years ago. It was winless the first two seasons.

Now the Crusaders are state champions.

LCS won a best-of-three set format with a 2-1 win Saturday over Wright Christian Academy (Tulsa) to claim the Class 3A Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletics Association state title at Destiny Christian in Del City.

"We've come a long way," LCS coach Alisha Corrales said.

In all, the Crusaders won six games Saturday   three in pool play and three in single-elimination bracket play  and swept Liberty Christian (Shawnee) and Claremore Christian to reach the state finals.

By beating Wright Christian, LCS (26-4) avenged two of its losses from earlier in the year. The Crusaders' only losses this fall came during a regular-season tournament.

None of that wouldn't have been possible two years ago, when a team of mostly freshmen didn't win a single match. It was Corrales' first season at the school.
