Lawton High NoteBook / State finals week

A week of rest

Due to Class 6A being split into two divisions, four teams  Union, Jenks, Bixby and Lawton High  were off last week.

An off-week can is always a tricky situation. It allows teams to get healthy, but a layoff might also disrupt a team since its routine gets thrown out of whack, just ask Midwest City this year. The Bombers were 7-2, but couldn't find an opponent for Week 10. So they had an off week and were upset in Round 1 by Sand Springs.

Before Lawton High could play Bixby for the first ever Class 6A-II state title Friday at Moore Stadium at 7 p.m., the Wolverines had to navigate the bye week.

It doesn't sound like it hurt them at all.

"It went well. We were able to get some practice in and get some turkey eaten," LHS head coach Randy Breeze said.

The Wolverines practiced Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before getting time off to be with their families on Thursday and Friday. They practiced on Saturday as well.
