Ike squads’ January slump continues with tourney losses
MOORE — Regardless of the result, Eisenhower girls coach Daniel Wall has prided his teams on defense throughout his young career.
However, the defensive effort and intensity that Wall has come to expect has been missing during the Lady Eagles’ current four-game slide, and it was apparent in a 61-52 loss to tournament host Westmoore in the Lady Jag Classic on Friday afternoon.
The unranked Class 6A squad took advantage of Ike’s defensive woes, carrying a 38-18 lead into halftime. Falling behind big has become a recurring problem for the Lady Eagles, something Wall attributes to the group’s lack of energy.
“We got in a hole again, and I’d say our effort in the first half was pretty sad, especially on the defensive end,” Wall said. “They scored 38 points in the first half, and that’s a lot of points. We struggled to get back on defense, and I told them, ‘Mike Krzyzewski can come in here and give you 38 different defenses, and it doesn’t mean diddly-squat if you’re not going to play hard.
