Ike sophomore captures tennis title

Eisenhower sophomore-to-be Parker Clement edged out Altus' Taylor Busby in the finals of the girls 16 and under division of the Lawton Summer Tennis Tournament on Friday at Lawton High.

Clement, the top seed in the event, defeated second-seeded Busby 8-6 in the final, after squeaking past Mac's Kerra Meraz 9-7 in the semis. Busby beat Anadarko's Lexi Toles 8-6 to advance to the championship match.

"This was a pretty balanced field," tournament director Jesse Stovall said. "We had two obvious top two seeds (Busby and Clement), however both of them were challenged in the semifinals."

In other action in the 29-person tournament, Lawton High's Donnae Guzman defeated Anadarko's Bianca Morales 8-5 to take the girls 14-year-old division championship. In the 12-year-old division, twins Kinsely and Kelsey Ferguson met in the championship, with Kinsely grabbing a 9-8 win.

Jamon Gord of Anadarko went 2-0 in the boys 18-year-old division to take first. Ike's Grant Naberhaus went 2-0 for a first place finish in the boys 16s.

Central's Tate Michener took first place in junior high boys' singles.
