Globetrotters come to Lawton
Hooping ambassadors (and Kyler Murray?) come to Great Plains Coliseum on Thursday
More than two years after their last visit, the Harlem Globetrotters return to Southwest Oklahoma on Thursday.
And they come fresh off inviting some high-profile hoopers, including two with Sooner State ties, to join their red, white and blue basketball circus.
The Globetrotters take the hardwood at the Great Plains Coliseum at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are available for $28 per ticket, with courtside seats at $85. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at https://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/tickets.
For more than 90 years, the Globetrotters have visited cities across the United States and beyond to entertain fans and spread goodwill. Known for their pranks, antics and high-flying tricks, the Globetrotters are synonymous with family-friendly fun.
The Globetrotters are also known for showmanship and going outside the box, particularly when it comes to adding players. Although most of the current roster is made up of former college basketball players, both male and female, the Globetrotters have held a yearly “draft” each of the past 13 years. It is typically held just several days before the NBA draft and while potential Globetrotters are on the docket, the draft is known more for the celebrities who are drafted by the Globetrotters each year. Although the likelihood of the celebrities participating in the game is often small, that hasn’t stopped the ‘Trotters from picking box-office stars (Kevin Hart, Gal Gadot), olympians in other sports (Usain Bolt, Missy Franklin), YouTube sensations (trick shot specialists Dude Perfect) or even Heisman Trophy winners (Johnny Manziel, Tim Tebow).
