CU volleyball splits 2 in Arkansas
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. Cameron fell 3-1 to Arkansas Tech early Tuesday, before halting a four-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep of Williams Baptist College in Russellville, Ark.
Kat Evans and Kendra Adams each had a match-high 11 kills against Williams Baptist, as CU recorded its second sweep of the season with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 victory.
The Aggies won the first set thanks to a negative attack percentage by Williams Baptist. A .486 hitting percentage and 21 kills powered CU in the second set, as the Eagles could only record nine kills on 25 attacks. Both Adams and Evans hit over .300 and combined for only seven errors against Williams Baptist (10-6). Ingrid Boatman set up her teammates well, totaling 26 assists while Kayla Hebert chipped in 11 of her own. Taylor Tepfer helped reached her fifth double-digit dig total of the season, recording 17.
WBC (10-6) had two players with seven kills apiece, while its setter only recorded 11 assists.
In the early match, Cameron (6-7) and Arkansas Tech (11-4) each beat each other 25-22 to start, before ATU took a 25-18 win in the third and a 25-23 to close the victory.
Both teams traded points in the fourth until ATU gained a 23-20 lead. CU got a pair of kills and used an ATU error to tie the set and force timeout, but the Aggies hit into a service error and the Golden Suns recorded a match-winning kill for the win.
