CU volleyball falls to West Texas A&M
West Texas A&M continued its volleyball domination over Cameron University on Friday.
But it wasn't easy.
Cameron stunned the Lady Buffs by taking the first set, 25-18. WT met the challenge by controlling play at the net en route to 25-10, 25-22 and 25-19 wins in the final three sets.
The victory is the 25th straight for WT over Cameron in Lone Star Conference play. The last loss was Nov. 14, 1998, in the LSC tournament.
WT, unranked but receiving votes in the AVCA poll, improves to 8-0 in league play and to 17-3 overall. Jason Skoch's squad has won 30 straight LSC matches.
CU, now 2-6 in the league and 9-8 overall, saw a four-match win streak end.
Coach Qi Wang's Aggies wrap up this brief home stand by hosting Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. today. The Zias lost at Midwestern last night, 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.
Cameron plays at Angelo State, Tarleton State and Eastern before returning to its court on Oct. 24 to face Texas Woman's University.
WT won this one at the net, hitting .235 to Cameron's .094 and owning a 13-5 advantage in blocked shots.
Senior Kameryn Hayes, the league's top hitter, set the pace Friday with 13 kills. Senior Lauren Bevan, first in kills, added 12. Hayes also had 29 of WT's 46 assists and sophomore Lauren Britten had 23 digs.
