Collinsville crushes MacArthur, 13-0 in Class 5A state tournament opener
BROKEN ARROW — As soon as he knew Jordan Wilkins’ hit was going yard, MacArthur coach Rodney DeLong could feel the energy drain.
The three-run bomb in the second inning gave Collinsville a four-run lead and the Highlanders never recovered, falling 13-0 in five innings in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament at Broken Arrow High School on Thursday afternoon.
“It just kind of imploded,” DeLong said. “It was a lack of focus, or it could’ve been something on my part. I’m not correcting those mistakes like I should. As soon as we got down 4-0, it zapped us. We just couldn’t recover. Once you started making a couple of mistakes, you can’t get that momentum back.”
The loss marks the third-straight early exit from the state tournament for Mac. The Highlanders (28-9) fell to Coweta, 7-3, in 2017 and dropped a 10-0 decision to Claremore last season.
