Cameron golfers shine in collegiate golf event

TERRELLTON, Texas  Cameron University is well represented on the leaderboard after the first round of the Collegiate Players Tour National Championship Tournament at the Honors Golf Course, including Bradley Ferrell who sits in second after Tuesday's first round.

Ferrell, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, shot a 68 and trails by just one stroke. There will be three rounds to decide the champion.

Tied for seventh is CU's Cullen Stahl, a junior from Eisenhower, after a round of 71.

Several Aggies are in a huge logjam in a tie for 13th as Dylan McClure, Justin Jang, and Casey Colvin all shot 1-over-par 73s.

Zander Winston is tied for 19th at 74 along with Aggie teammates Zeb Littlefield and Cory Bounds.

Two other Aggies  Blake Rhodes and Quinton Tews  struggled on the tough course and shot 79 and 81, respectively, and will be trying to turn things around today.

"I thought we had a good group here and I was proud of the way they played," CU coach Jerry Hrnciar said. "This Tour is conducted by former TCU coach Barry Rodenhamer and I've been helping him run some of these tournaments. My guys either qualified by earning enough points during the season, or in the case of Cullen and Zander, they were invited on the strength of their performances last season."
