Cameron falls, 12-8 in first game of Super Regional
There was a time where Cameron led, but it wouldn’t last long.
The Aggies opened Super Regional play Thursday against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas. After scoring a couple of runs in the second to take the lead, Cameron gave up an offensive outburst in the third, falling behind and never recovering in a 12-8 loss.
Abbey Warren’s double in the top of the second brought in two runs to put Cameron up, 2-0. The Javelina’s responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, but went off in the third.
Anastasia Leibas began the barrage with a two-RBI home run to put Kingsville up, 3-2.Roxy Chapa followed with a solo homer as the runs began to pour in. In all, the Javelinas scored nine runs in the inning to take a 10-2 advantage.
Cameron bounced back surprisingly well to score five runs of its own in the fourth. Raley Long, Brenna Busby, Breley Webb and Kaylyn Smith each came away with RBI singles in the inning. AfterCallie Busby’s sacrifice fly brought in her sister, the Aggies turned an eight-run deficit to a manageable three. The next inning the cut it to 10-8.
