Cache has sparkle for successful 2017 season
Season-ending losses are never supposed to be easy to handle emotionally.
Player after player on the Cache volleyball team walked out of the locker room with tears flooding their eyes following Saturday's crushing loss to eventual Class 4A State volleyball champion Christian Heritage Academy.
After being swept by the Crusaders in the State 4A semifinals at Choctaw High School, the Cache players appeared inconsolable. Expressions on the players' faces were of despair and shock as each fully realized their time together as a unit on the court had come to a close.
At the same time, you could almost see a sparkle in each of their eyes for they realized how much they had accomplished together as a team.
The Bulldogs had wanted to write their own version to the final chapter, ending with a state championship. Not every season is a fairytale ending, though.
So Cache assistant coach Kerry White, also the girls basketball coach, gave each player an encouraging message and congratulations when exiting the locker room. Most were able to give a ginger smile in return and shed a sparkle realizing White was right they had plenty to be proud of.
The delicate moment perfectly personified what this Cache volleyball team was all about in 2017 family.
