Army men eye berth in softball title game
For the second straight year, the Army men's softball team has been impressive and is in position to win another title in the Armed Forces Softball Tournament being conducted at the Cannoneer Sports Complex at Fort Sill.
After the first two days, the Army men had posted a 3-1 record, with the lone loss coming at the hands of the Navy by a 16-10 score late Monday night. Monday the Army men did beat the Air Force, 22-12, then Tuesday the Army men were all business, beating the Marines, 23-6, and the Air Force, 33-13 to stay in the race for the title.
Then early Wednesday morning the Army team got a measure of revenge against the Navy by taking a convincing 33-14 victory. However, the Army men then were upset by the Marines, 23-15, to tighten up the standings.
Today will be the final day of qualifying games, then the teams will be bracketed for a single elimination tournament to decide the two champions. The Army men will play at 11 a.m. against the Navy, then at 2 p.m. against the Marines, needing a couple of wins to aid the Army cause.
The Army women will play at 12:30 p.m. against the Navy, then at 3:30 p.m. against the Marines.
