Area girls teams populate first OSSAA rankings
Polls will madden, sadden and (on rare occasions) gladden sports fans.
Polls are polls. They're not always right. They're not always wrong. They're just, well... there.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association's basketball coaches rankings were released a week ago today, featuring 15 boys and girls teams from outside the city limits. A new poll will be released this afternoon, but first here is a glimpse of where the area girls teams are ranked and what we might expect from them this season. Look for an installment on the boys teams later this week.
Anadarko, Elgin and Cache are in for some great competition together (again).
All three rosters have college-caliber players, which is why each school is ranked in the top seven of Class 4A. All three played each other last year in area tournaments with state tournament trips on the line, and that could very well be the case again a few months from now.
Second-ranked Anadarko, state runner-up a year ago, is armed with Oral Roberts signee Ashley Beatty and junior guard Tandra King. With the wealth of other perimeter defenders the Warriors possess, this could very well wind up being the best backcourt in the class. That theory will be tested a week from tomorrow when 'Darko hosts Elgin.
