580 crew can't stay up with Capital City team
The 580 RollerGirls fell to 1-3 on the season after a Saturday night home loss to Capital City.
The young home squad battled hard but fell 260-144 to the Crushers in Great Plains Coliseum.
"We are skating with a very young team, and I couldn't be more proud. We asked so much of of our new blood, and they not once did they let us down," said Missi Singer, a.k.a. Stinger, co-captain. "Capital City was great to play against as well some of the best sportsmanship displayed in this region. They earned the win, and we know where to grow from here."
580 started strong but by jam 11, the Topeka, Kan., team had doubled their score and ran away with the bout. The halftime deficit was 150 to 61.
Alicia Vernor, a.k.a. Kurvacious Pride, earned MVP blocker and Danniell Rice, a.k.a. Dani Banani took the jammer honors for 580.
Despite the loss, 580 is expected to move up in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association rankings from its March 31 rank of No. 259 out of 339 ranked teams due to beating the 41-13 spread against the Capital City Crushers, said Marie Berberea, a.k.a. Molly Meet Your Maker.
