Massage therapy center opens in Lawton
Sasha Shelton just opened her new business at Cherry's Place, Southwest 3rd Street and C Avenue, and hopes that her clients will enjoy a relaxing, therapeutic massage while they are in her hands.
Shelton opened Naturally At Peace Massage Therapy on Nov. 7 and said she's been enjoying success so far. Her hours are 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The business is closed on Sunday.
"I graduated from Platte College in 2009, and have been doing 'outcalls' since then," Shelton said. "Massage has been a passion of mine for a long time. A master reflexologist showed me the basics of reflexology when my mom was gravely ill, and I practiced that on my mom and family. She eventually got better and I am positive that the therapy was beneficial."
Shelton is not only in the massage business, but is also a certified medication assistant for a company in Lawton.
"I hope to get my R.N. degree in the future and focus on alternative medicines," she said.
"I have walk-ins and appointments available. Oklahoma does not cover massage therapy on insurance as of right now, but one day they will accept it as therapy."
Shelton has overcome many obstacles and wants to help people as much as she can.
"I was run over by a relative when I was 18 months old and received three skull fractures, a torn spleen, a fractured C-2 vertebrae, and severe nerve damage, which caused me to have seizures," Shelton said. "I haven't had a seizure for a while now and I want to focus on this new career and the future. I give God the glory every single day of my life."
"Before I begin a session, I pray over the room and the table and my hands," Shelton said. "I genuinely care about the person who is in that room. I want them to feel better both physically and emotionally because I care about their whole being."
