Tipton holds annual banquet

TIPTON   A husband and wife were presented Man and Woman of the Year awards for 2013 by the Tipton Chamber of Commerce during an annual banquet Monday in the Larry Osborne Cafeteria of Tipton Public Schools.

The honors went to Billy and Verna Gray. They were recognized for their many contributions to the community during the 48 years they have lived in Tipton.

"They are always helping the people of this community," said Chamber president Mike Balderas. "They treat everybody with respect and also lead their church."

Balderas said the Grays were chosen for the honor by a high percentage of votes due to their longtime active role and support in the community including the attendance of athletic events of Tipton schools.

Additionally, members of the banquet planning committee were recognized along with former chamber president Bryant Ferris for his efforts over the past year. Balderas also outlined the chamber's accomplishments and local events over the past year. Those events included the July 4 celebration, Christmas parade, school carnival, alumni pancake breakfasts and awarding of scholarships to high school seniors.

Balderas said the Tipton Chamber of Commerce now has a Facebook page for getting the word out on upcoming events and other news. He said the chamber is also working on a website to enhance promotion of local events and the community.
