Tillman County fire danger remains high
FREDERICK Tillman County commissioners took no action to reinstate a burn ban during their business meeting Monday.
A previous burn ban had been cancelled March 17 due to recent rainfall that lessened the fire danger. However, officials of Tillman County and other counties still advise residents to take precautions for burning of trash and for agricultural purposes.
Commissioners do have the option to reinstate the burn ban if conditions warrant.
Frederick Fire Chief James Heap said conditions have improved somewhat over the past month across Tillman County because of rainfall and other factors including the change in seasons.
"The grass is greening up some due to recent light rain," he said. "We have had few fires lately. ... Looks like everyone is burning responsibly to keep the fires from getting out of control."
