Seafood lovers got their fix at Frederick oyster fry event

FREDERICK  Seafood lovers from throughout Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas converged on Frederick's Prather Brown Center Cafeteria Saturday for the 2014 Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry.

Saturday's event  featuring pounds and pounds of fresh oysters from the Gulf of Mexico  marked the 25th year for oysters to be served in Frederick. The Fantastic Oyster Fry was previously held annually in Manitou starting in 1952 before moving to Frederick.

Diners could choose fried or raw oysters, or a combination of both. The dinner also came with homemade slaw, chips, bread and a drink. Homemade desserts were sold as a fundraiser by the Frederick FFA.

The annual event is sponsored by the Frederick Chamber of Commerce as a fundraiser.

Greg Howard, volunteer coordinator for the event, estimated around 1,000 people attended the Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry.

"This is very good. And the weather was perfect," he said. "We expected to have at least 1,000 show up."
