Previously convicted Anadarko man accused of accosting woman

A 50-year-old Anadarko man has been charged with a violent attempted robbery that injured the victim but left the suspect empty-handed.

Anthony C. Riddle is charged in Caddo County District Court with attempted robbery by force. He was previously convicted of two counts of robbery by force or fear in April 1990 in Caddo County, and for possession of contraband in a penal institution in Cleveland County in June 2001. If convicted, he faces no less than 15 years in prison.

Riddle was arrested Friday afternoon shortly before 2 p.m. after an assault and robbery in the parking lot behind 403 NE 1st Street, according to an affidavit filed in court.

Anadarko Police Officer Todd Palmer said he was called to the parking lot of Step-N-Fetchum to meet with the woman, who told Palmer she'd been assaulted by a man she had met and that he tried to rob her.

Department of Corrections Officer Travis Maloy told Palmer he heard a scream while at his desk in an office across the street and a co-worker alerted him to activity outside. He said he ran to a group of people across the street, found the woman on the ground and the people were pointing south saying "he went that way," the affidavit states.
