MP Trout Fest is a family fishing tourney
Families will have a fish tale or two to tell this weekend when they participate in the second annual Medicine Park Trout Festival.
Started last year as a partnership between the cobblestone community and the Gone Fishin' Bait and Tackle Shop, the family-friendly tournament was so popular it has become an annual event. Jimmy Miller, owner of Gone Fishin', said the festival will be a great experience for everyone of all ages.
"We wanted to put something together that everyone could participate in," he said. "The kids absolutely love it because they get to take the fish they pulled out of the creek up here and weigh it in themselves and win real prizes."
The festival will officially commence Saturday morning and run through Sunday evening. Fishermen can hit the creek and reel in as many trout as they can. Certain specimens will be tagged by Miller and other festival organizers. Those tagged fish can be taken to the bait shop and turned in for prizes, which include gift cards from area businesses and vouchers to Medicine Park businesses. A $50 gift card will also be given out for the most "unusual" trout pulled out of the creek.
"We gave away a lot of great prizes last year and that's something we wanted to do again this year," Miller said.
