Heat of spring gives way to summer today
Today is the first official day of summer.
But you already knew that, right? Take a step outside your air conditioned office or home or work in an office without air conditioning and you can tell the dog days of summer have arrived well before the calendar indicated a change of seasons. It's hot and it's muggy. This is Oklahoma. Aren't we just supposed to deal with a dry heat? The heat index has tracked between 5-10 degrees above the actual temperatures during this latest warm spell, adding insult to heat stroke.
Spring was an interesting meteorological season this year. According to the National Weather Service, April 2018 was the coolest April on record across the state. That's not a record we see very often these days. But Mother Nature more than made up for that difference. May 2018 was the hottest May on record across the state and in Southwest Oklahoma. With less than two weeks to go in June, it looks like it will go down in the history books as another scorcher.
