Elgin native aids hurricane victims

Special to The Lawton Constitution LEXINGTON — Soldiers from the Oklahoma Army National Guard, including an Elgin native, departed from Lexington’s Muldrow Army Heliport to provide a specialized skill set for those impacted by Hurricane Florence. 

Sgt. Tiff ani McBride was one of seven soldiers from Detachment 1, C Company, 1st of the 169th General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), trained in helicopter search and rescue team (HSART) operations, who were placed on state active duty orders to assist in the recovery efforts after Hurricane Florence hit the east coast of the U.S. The unit will weather the storm in Knoxville, Tenn., and wait on standby until called upon by one of the states affected by the storm
