Owls, Warriors advance to tournament finals

In order to make it to Saturday’s championship games, there can be no slacking off in the semifinals.

Both Elgin basketball teams — which advanced to the Hub City Classic championship games tonight — and several other area teams made sure to keep their foot on the gas pedal to be playing for tournament silverware and bragging rights.

Here are teams playing for tournament championships tonight: Tipton girls (Frazer Bank Invitational), Anadarko girls, boys (Anadarko Midfirst Classic), Elgin girls, boys (Hub City Classic) and the Cache boys (Longhorn Invitational).

The No. 2 Elgin girls doubled up Noble, 81-40, behind 25 points from Paige Pendley and 24 from Izzy Cummins as the duo sank nine 3-pointers in the blowout win. The Lady Owls (14-1) — who take on No. 16 Elk City tonight at 7 p.m. in Clinton for a second straight Hub City title — led 26-9 after the first quarter and got an additional 19 points from Kailah Ballou.
