What are you doing New Year's Eve? It isn't just a vintage song title, it's an annual quandary.
When going out isn't the answer, staying in with TV offers multiple-choice options. Celebrate in virtual fashion or avoid holiday hoopla entirely.
AULD LANG SYNE
"New Year's Rockin' Eve" (ABC, 9-10 p.m., 10:30 p.m.-12:15 a.m.). Legendary host Dick Clark died this year, but successor Ryan Seacrest salutes Clark's NYE career in an 7-9 p.m. prime time special. Then, Seacrest hits Times Square live with Jenny McCarthy and performers Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen and Neon Trees. Among the musical acts (recorded earlier) in Hollywood with studio host Fergie: Brandy, Flo Rida, Karmin, OneRepublic and Pitbull.
"New Year's Eve Live" (NBC, 9-10 p.m., 10:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m.). Carson Daly returns to Times Square, with "Office" fave Angela Kinsey, plus performances from Train and "The Voice" winner Cassadee Pope. Also, a 2012 musical retrospective features Coldplay at the Paralympics, Madonna at the Super Bowl, Adele from Albert Hall, more.
"New Year's Eve Live" (Fox, 10 p.m.-11:30 p.m.). Las Vegas is the setting for music from Lifehouse, Carmen Electra and others. And there's that Times Square ball drop.
