The Lawton Heritage Association is hosting its annual holiday open house. The public is invited to join the festivities from 6-8 p.m. Friday at The Historic Mattie Beal Home, Southwest 5th Street and Summit Avenue.
This century-old mansion, once known as "the finest home in Lawton" will be uniquely decorated for the holidays. Admission is free.
Also, the Lawton Heritage Association is offering a unique Christmas decoration to honor Lawton's historic past. The association has for the last several years had a keepsake ornament of Lawton's historic buildings. This year's ornament shows the Carnegie Library, constructed in 1922 and on the National Register of Historic Places since 1976.
It can be purchased for $15 at the Historic Mattie Beal Home, noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays; also at Massad's Gifts and Stationery, 413 SW C, and at the Museum of the Great Plains, 601 NW Ferris.
The two previous ornaments were of The Historic Mattie Beal Home (in 2010) and the old Lawton High School, now City Hall (2011). A few of these are still available.
