As was noted in Sunday's Styles section, Lawton area nonprofit agencies have the chance to be part of an important event this week a training for board members by the state's premier program dedicated to nonprofits.
In recent years, Southwest Oklahoma has seen its fair share of mis-directed boards. A well-meaning, well-functioning board of directors is usually a well-trained board. Such boards are important to the success of any nonprofit organization. This week current and potential volunteers will have the opportunity to find out what good boards are all about. Marnie Taylor, president & CEO of the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, will conduct "10 Best Practices for Great Board Performance."
To attend
The workshop will be offered 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the United Way of Lawton-Fort Sill office, located at 1116 SW A. The public is invited to participate, however, there is a fee. Center members will pay $60, and non-members, $90. Registration can be done ahead of time by visiting the center website at http://bit.ly/LawtonBoards or by calling during business hours, (405) 463-6886.
