Cameron University's Department of Music will present a tuba recital by Dr. Roy Couch, assistant professor of music, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the McCutcheon Recital Hall, room 115 of the Cameron Music Building.
Admission is free to the public. Pianist Yiuka Chan Spannagel of Lawton Pro Musica will accompany Couch in his recital, which will include five pieces and last roughly an hour.
"I play recitals because this is what originally inspired me to make music my career the joy and satisfaction of preparing music and then performing it," Couch said. "It is a challenge to prepare a program like this while fulfilling my other teaching and service obligations to the university, but I never want to lose this aspect of why I love music."
The program includes "Adagio and Allegro" by Robert Schumann, arranged by Floyd Cooley; "The Legend of Heimdall" by Elizabeth Raum; "Canzonetta from Violin Concerto in D" by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged by Noreen Baer; "Tuba Concerto" by Martin Ellerby; and "Tico Tico" by Zequinha de Abreu, arranged by Lewis Buckley. Couch said he chose the pieces for the recital based on music he likes to play and hear and to provide some variety and interest to the audience.
