Recently, the United Way began their annual campaign to raise 1.8 million dollars. One organization that has benefited from these funds in recent years is Family Promise of Lawton, which is ran by Network Director Edwina Reddick.
The organization is a homeless program that partners with churches and organizations in the area to provide housing to their participants.
"We are a homeless program, whereas we do not have a shelter," Reddick said. "We network with the faith community to provide the sheltering component to our program."
The organization partners with 11 host churches to provide services to their guests.
"Those churches convert their Sunday school rooms or their space into bedrooms for our guests for a week at a time," Reddick said. "We rotate weekly from church to church."
These churches are sponsored by supporting churches that provide volunteers and services to the host churches while they are hosting Family Promise guests. Reddick said that Family Promise is always looking for additional host churches, supporting churches and volunteers.
