It is a tradition that has repeated itself for 10 years in Pawhuska. The National Indian Taco Championship brings competitors, judges and Indian taco lovers from across the state together for a mouth-watering experience.
The competition has traditionally been held in May but to reduce scheduling conflicts Michael McCartney, Director of the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce, said they moved it to its date this year: Oct. 6.
"We found out that it was too close to our Osage Nation Dances in June," he said. "Also, a lot of people were graduating and getting ready for the end-of-year school activities."
McCartney said that the reception for the October date has been overwhelming, especially by the contestants.
"If everybody shows this year, we will have doubled our competitors from last year," he said.
