Highlanders too much for Redskins, roll 56-0
It was a night about getting some stickers on the helmet.
Against a winless Capitol Hill team on Thursday night in Cameron Stadium, MacArthur did pretty much whatever it wanted on the way to a 56-0 win over the Oklahoma City school.
For players like Adrian Gaines, Thursday was about doing as much as you could with what little time you were on the field. Gaines did his part, recovering a fumble, bringing in an interception and catching a Kyler Arter 24-yard touchdown pass to put Mac (7-2, 5-1 District 5A-1) up 20-0.
"I get a Highlander for a touchdown and I get six points on the board for us," Gaines said.
The starters didn't get a lot of action, as they put on a display and got the score to 35-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Darius Graham got things going with a 7-yard touchdown run, followed by a 28-yard screen pass from Will Collins.
After Arter's pass to Gaines, many of the starters came out of the game and the junior varsity got a lot of playing time.
"It's great to have those young guys in there getting the experience," Mac head coach Brett Manning said. "We played seven JV games this year and they got to play most of this one too, so experience is good."
For starters like Gaines, the rest of the night was about having fun and cheering on their teammates.
