Well, last week's pick didn't go as planned.
When I go about choosing the game of the week to opine about in these first few paragraphs, I choose the game I think is going to be the best in the area. Looking at records, scoring differentials and what I have seen personally in teams I decide that this game or that is the best one, and understand that if that game is here at the beginning, I think it's the one to go see if you don't have an allegiance to a team in Southwest Oklahoma.
That being said, last week's pick didn't go how I would have liked.
There's a big part of me that many would call a homer I want the local teams to win, that's why I went against the grain and picked Apache. I'd do it again, especially if it were in Apache.
Sometimes, that means I'm going to get some wrong. However, when I'm right it makes it that much sweeter.
This week, the mantle of game of the week (or albatross, whichever way you want to look at it) belongs to Anadarko as its hosts Clinton in what is likely the District 4A-1 championship.
Having seen both these teams, I will say that if you don't have a kid playing on Friday night and you love high school football, get yourself up to Anadarko and watch the Warriors take on the Red Tornadoes, this is going to be an amazing game.
With Anadarko hitting on all cylinders with Brandon Pollard and R.J. Sink in the backfield and those offensive and defensive lines, there's no way I am picking against Anadarko.
However, let's all remember that Clinton is a good football team, and only lost to 5A MacArthur by 14 in the first week of the season at home.
So when you put it all together and have to make a pick, you have to take the home team and you have to believe in what Anadarko can do to run the ball and stop the run. . . ANADARKO 35, Clinton 14.
