Lance Martin has learned a lot in his life.
He has learned to work hard, how to switch from being a defensive end to being a safety and Martin knows what it takes to get to where you want to be.
For Martin, a big part of that walk is with his faith.
"It means everything to me," he said. "God has blessed me so much in my life and has given me a wonderful family that is well-grounded in spiritual faith. And just to have a chance to go out here and be an example to my friends is great, being able to show that."
The son of a youth minister, it's easy to see where the love of faith began.
That love follows Martin as he does work through his church, First Baptist East, on Sundays as a leader in the children's church where he helps the younger members of the congregation.
He also gives as a member of the National Honor Society and the outreach programs they do as well.
However, it's not always easy to be a person of faith.
