Singers from city churches perform Christmas musical
Local Lawton singers will perform in the Oklahoma premiere of "The Journey of Christmas," a new musical by Lifeway.
The premiere is free to the public and is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at First Baptist Church in Moore, 301 NE 27th.
Lawton singers taking part in the concert include April Abraham, Xavier Abraham, John Benight, Diana Boydstun, David Bracher, Sharon Fudge, Chris Justice, Lenora Nepper, Harry Ross, Doug Snook, Yvette Teel, Jan Williams and George Welborn.
The singers auditioned for and are members of The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma and The Singing ChurchWomen of Oklahoma led by Randy C. Lind, worship and music specialist for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO). The two choirs are joining together to premiere the new music from Lifeway that will not be available to the public until 2016. The producer for the project, Phil Barfoot, is a composer, author and music ministry professional who has written and created more than 20 major choral collections and musicals.
Along with the premiere, the Lawton singers also will take part in the recording of the music for the demo CD that Lifeway will offer to churches, schools and organizations when they release the music in 2016.
"This is quite an honor for our two groups to be chosen to not only be the choir that premieres this beautiful music in Oklahoma but also to record it for churches across the country to listen to as they prepare their own concerts in the future," Lind said.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for "The Journey of Christmas" concert premiere with open seating. Groups are welcome and reserved group seating is available for groups of 20 or more by contacting Dru Baker at 405-942-3000 ext. 4650.
