Myrtle Appling

FREDERICK  Funeral for Myrtle Appling, 89, of Frederick, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, Frederick, with the Rev. R.K. Miles officiating.  

Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Appling went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, in a Lawton hospital.

Myrtle (Smith) Appling was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Boswell, Okla., to Thaddeus Warsaw and Florence (Collins) Smith. She attended Boswell Elementary and graduated from Boyd High School in 1949, as Valedictorian of her class. In 1968, she was united in marriage to Marion Appling in Frederick. Mr. Appling preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2013. 

Mrs. Appling was a true lady who was known for her quiet spirit. She was an excellent seamstress and cook and was also known for her pecan pies. She was a loving mother who was committed to her family. Reflecting back, her daughters remember she was always able to discipline them without yelling. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years.  She also served as mission president and taught Sunday School all her life.

Mrs. Appling is survived by five daughters: Cathy Gossett of Wichita Falls, Texas, TiJuana Menefee and her husband Larry of Wichita Falls, Texas, Marnita Archie of Muskogee, Lachelle Wilson and her husband Anthony of Muskogee, and Tara Brown and her husband Timothy of Brush, Colo.; two brothers: James Smith of Frederick, and Wade Smith and his wife Lola of Frederick; three sisters: Jerlene Williams of Kansas City, Mo., Franceil Lang of Alexandria, Va., and Shirley Stevenson and her husband Jimmie of Lawton;  12 grandchildren: Bernard Shaw, Clinton Shaw, Tamarasha Smith, Deidre Menefee, Tiana Gaines, Lathon Archie III, Lacy Archie Canada, Jarren Gonzalez, Brice McClellon, Eboni Appling, Timothy Brown and Cassidy Brown; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion Appling; one granddaughter, Amber Archie; four brothers: Jessie, Dave, W.D. and Henry Smith; three sisters: Addie Mae Gordon, Magalene Miller and Mary Norris; and two sons-in-law: Derel Gossett and Lathon Archie Jr.
