Chois L. Bowers Sr.
Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class Chois L. Bowers Sr., 84, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Martin, associate pastor of First Baptist East, Lawton, officiating.
Entombment with full military honors will follow in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Retired Sgt. 1st Class Chois L. Bowers Sr. passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, in Lawton.
He was born July 26, 1933, in Winnsboro, Texas, to William E. and Lorene (Howell) Bowers. Mr. Bowers married Helen D. Sellers on March 16, 1958, in Chester County, N.C., and they were married for 52 years before Helen's passing on Feb. 25, 2011.
As a young man Chois joined the United States Army and served his country honorably until his retirement. Chois was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. While in the Army Sgt. 1st Class Bowers earned the following awards: the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), 6 Good Conduct Medals, Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Bars (2), Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, American Campaign Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Driver Badge, and Service Stripes (6).
Following his retirement from the Army Chois worked in highway construction for several years. He loved to buy and sell horses while his sons trained the horses. Mr. Bowers also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of his grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons: Chois L. Bowers Jr. and his wife Brenda of Wichita Falls, Texas, William E. Bowers and fiancÈ Tamra Mahan of Lawton, and Paul Bowers and Anglia of Waco, Ga.; grandchildren: Brian Bowers and Shannon, Nathan Bowers and Jamie, Paul Bowers Jr. and Shelly, Melissa McIntosh and Deangelo, and Rebekah Bowers; nine great-grandchildren, one sister, several stepbrothers and stepsisters, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and infant son, Nathan Dale Bowers
