Run for Fallen set
Run for the Fallen will be coming through Southwest Oklahoma on May 24-25, according to Suzanne MacDaniel, a Gold Star Family Member who volunteers for the organization.
"I am hoping you can help us," she writes. "We are in search of runners, donations and volunteers for a nationwide relay foot run in tribute to military service members who have died since Oct. 12, 2000."
Participants will be running over 6,000 miles in 19 states to honor nearly 20,000 names. Each mile will represent a unique chronological date of death. Most miles will include multiple names. Every hero has been attached to a specific mile and day. Currently, 19,000 names have been identified, subsequently correlating to 5,000 unique days of death. The 120-day relay will begin April 7 on Fort Irwin, Calif., and end Aug. 5 in Arlington National Cemetery.
The names being honored include every service member who died during the War on Terror while on active duty or as a result of active duty, including all branches of service and all causes of death.
